The Sovereigns

"The bison once roamed these lands in numbers so vast they shaped entire ecosystems. Before us, the land was in equilibrium, stewarded by the forces of nature and indigenous wisdom. The great plains were alive with an intricate web of life where the migration of the bison nourished the soil, the rivers ran undisturbed, and the sky bore witness to the cycles of renewal.
My painting is a meditation on the possibilities to restore that balance. The golden yellow of the aspens and the towering storm clouds symbolize both the memory of what once was and the looming threat of what may be lost. The bison, standing in quiet dignity, represents resilience - a bridge between the past and the possibility of regeneration. I saw them with my bare eyes, up in this special place in Colorado.
Now we have to think of a path forward. It's not merely conservation, but regeneration. By revitalizing native grasslands, reintroducing keystone species, and protecting wild corridors, we can rebuild the landscapes that once flourished. The bison, once nearly driven to extinction, now stand as a symbol of what is possible: a return to harmony, a testament to endurance, and a call to action.
Through The Sovereigns, I hope to evoke not just nostalgia, but responsibility and a deep recognition that we are not separate from nature, but a part of it. If we listen to the lessons of the land, we can begin to heal the wounds of the past and move toward a future where wild things thrive once more."
