The Sea Doesn't Have Churches Nor Taverns

"Well this had been in my mind for probably 27 years since I discovered Joaqu ín Sorolla. We all learned from him. Not one realistic painter doesn't hold him dearly in his heart. In art school I studied his brush strokes in detail, I used to go to Musée d'Orsay to look at his giant pieces with my bare eyes.
Forever I was dreaming of painting subject matters like his but it was really hard to find my own material and make it my own.
But last summer in Sicily, with the help of my good friends, the brothers Gerbino, I was able to bring my vision to life and stage a photoshoot of fishermen like they were in the early 1900s. Just like the old West, I have a passion for things of the past. There is a timeless value and a delicious nostalgia about it. The fishermen are the cowboys of the sea and that always speaks to my heart."
