I was there with my friend Chris Elise and we were gonna go photograph some cowboys up in Dubois. But in the early morning we decided that I would go paint some plein air of the Teton and he would take behind the scene photos of me. It was super early and before setting my easel I decided to take photos of the Teton at sunrise. And out of nowhere, some elk came running . The bull stopped for a second and I was able to snap a pic of him as I had a 400mm on. This was in 2021. It took me 5 years to decide to paint it. Probably because it wasn’t the time before. And it was time now. As my friend Crowfeather told me, the Elk represents the keeper of the dreams in some indigenous traditions. It roams between the two worlds, physical and visions.
